Gnome and Fairy Hike:
Enjoy a short and mostly flat hike through the woods surrounding our pollinator habitat while searching for hidden guests visiting us for the month of May. A simple map and a coloring sheet are available at the trailhead, in the box that also holds brochures about our organization and about Luke Chute Conservation Area. You can also print your own map and coloring sheet from our website or Facebook page. The coloring sheet gives you an idea of what our little guests look like and the order you will find them, so you can know for sure you found them all. Follow the trail from the parking lot to the picnic shelter and then down the "maintenance trail" - pardon the appearance there, as we are currently working on that trail to make our conservation area more accessible. Head counter-clockwise around the woodland trail, keeping your eyes peeled, for you never know just where those gnomes and fairies might be found.
You may also enjoy looking for nesting bluebirds in our bluebird boxes, located at the edges of the pollinator habitat. Check for frogs in our spadefoot pond and basking turtles along the river bank. You can also read about pollinators in our kiosk before finishing your trek through the woods. If you are up for a longer hike, head across the road to Cabin Run and hike along our (less flat and more rugged) trails that parallel the creek. As you are returning to your car, consider leaving us a message in the mailbox near the picnic shelter to tell us if you enjoyed your visit or how we might make your next visit more enjoyable.
