Who is LMC?
LMC is a land trust committed to conserving and protecting natural areas in the lower Muskingum River Watershed for all to enjoy. We acquire land with conservation value which contains headwaters and water filtering plants and trees to protect water quality. Our land also holds rich biodiversity, including many vital pollinator species which are in decline nationwide.
We understand that natural lands are vital to all forms of life because they maintain natural systems which protect biodiversity, food webs, and human health. We also understand that thousands of acres are lost each day to development and other land uses. Now more than ever, we need to conserve ecologically important land to protect the future of life.
A land trust is a charitable organization that acquires land or conservation easements or that stewards land or easements, to achieve one or more conservation purposes.
The conservation purposes may include protecting natural habitat, water quality, or scenic views; ensuring that the land is always available for farming, forestry, or outdoor recreational use; or protecting other values provided by open land.

We all live downstream. A watershed is all land ridge tops to valleys that drain to a common body of water.
The Muskingum River drains the eastern third of Ohio and is the largest watershed in the state.
The Lower Muskingum River is arbitrarily defined at the 68 river miles from Philo to Marietta. The watershed contains a drainage area of 638 square miles including parts of Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, and Washington counties.
